St. Lucia @ The Fonda

I hate balcony tickets, but I hate paying above face value for tickets more. I bit the bullet and bought tickets to see St. Lucia with Grace Mitchell at the Fonda. I’d never seen Grace Mitchell before and I was blown away by her stage presence and music. St. Lucia always puts on a great show and I still had fun even in the balcony.

Jenny Lewis & The Watson Twins @ The Cathedral Sanctuary

Last Friday I watched Jenny Lewis perform in Koreatown. It was one of the most interesting shows I’d been to for a few reasons:
- It was in a church, so the audience sat in the pews
- There was an intermission between the two sets
- She had 3 outfit changes
- A very drunk fan had to be carried offstage
- All the girl attendees looked like Jenny Lewis
She began by walking down the aisle holding a candle with the Watson twins, singing an acoustic version of Run Devil Run. She performed Rabbit Fur Coat in its entirety with the help of the twins & M.Ward, who opened for her. It was beautiful and the setting was perfect.

Madeon @ Club Nokia
I saw Madeon last week at probably one of the worst venues for an electronic artist. Club Nokia in downtown LA is like a theater, complete with extreme stadium seating and no pit section. I will probably never buy another ticket to an event at this venue ever again because I didn’t like the vibes inside at all.
Madden surprised me. After seeing the venue and watching the terrible opener, I didn’t really have high hopes for a good show. I mean how good could a producers live show be? However his visuals were incredible, and it reminded me of old deadmau5 or even etienne de crecy. You could tell a lot of thought went into the visuals and how they synced with what he was playing. I loved that they turned his Launchpads towards the audience so we could actually see what he was doing on stage, and actually appreciated the TV’s in the venue when I could see a closeup of his Launchpads or piano work.
Overall I had a fun night. Although Madeon surprised me with his setup, I don’t know if I’d see him again, even in a a more suited festival setting. Maybe it was the venue, maybe it was my mood, but his performance fell a bit flat overall.
AlunaGeorge – I’m in Control
I’ve seen them a handful of times already, but to see them on my favorite polo grounds this year is going to be amazing!
Menotti’s

Hands down my favorite artisan coffee shop in Los Angeles. The owner and head barista, who goes by Nicely, is the 2010, 2011, & 2012 Coffee Fest World Latte Art Champion. Located steps from Venice Beach, Menotti’s serves Four Barrel Coffee and spins vinyl, which makes it the perfect respite from the tacky tourist traps nearby. You might get lucky and have Derek make your coffee when he’s not on tour as Bank’s drummer.
